Hair Conditioner for Men

Grooming your hair with the right conditioner is very important. Conditioners moisturize, detangle, and reconstruct your hair. Keeping our hair looking healthy and strong is important for men, especially if our appearance is important at work, in the club and on that date with the hot girl from the club.

Basically, when you wash your hair you are stripping away your natural oils (sebum). Not good. Well, if you didn't you would have dirty, greasy hair. Unfortunately, our natural oils like to attract natural dirt.

After shampooing, a good conditioner can restore the oil back to your hair. Humectants attract and hold moisture in your hair. Many conditioners also contain hydrolized keratin which is a protein that will penetrate your hair to strengthen it. Acidifiers in conditioners restore balance and give your hair elasticity and shine. They keep hair from being "weighed down".

Conditioners can be divided into six categories. Here is the quick lowdown.

Moisturizers - contain humectants to retain moist

Reconstructors - contain protein

Acidifiers - contain acid, about 2.5 to 3.5 ph

Detanglers - usually contain acids

Thermal Protectors - contain polymers that protect hair from blow drying, hot curlers, irons, etc.

Glossers - contain silicone-derived oils to make hair shine. Purely cosmetic.

Many men's hair product lines carry both shampoos and conditioners. Always buy the smallest quantity when first trying out a product. See if sample products are available. Also, use the product a few times before making a judgment, especially with shampoos and conditioners. Test it out for 2-3 weeks, but if you get nasty side effects after the first use stop using it. This usually never happens, so make sure you buy a shampoo/conditioner that is made for your type of hair.

The Interplay Of Humidity Air Conditioner, And Heater

The term humidity refers to the vaporized water existent in the air surrounding us. We commonly hear of relative humidity i.e. the percentage of water vapor measured in the air at a specific temperature. Absolute humidity is the total mass of water vapor in particular volume of air at a given time. It is a well-understood fact that warm air can hold greater quantity of water vapor than cold air. Since air conditioner and heater both alter the air temperature, the humidity level indoors changes significantly with their use.

Humidity Levels And Comfort

The relative humidity level for comfortable condition of the human body is between 20 and 60 percent. For home environment an average 35 to 40 percent relative humidity is optimum given an outside temperature of 20?F or more. But during winter, water vapors on windows and inside of walls occur, raising the humidity level inside. This may cause damage to the structures. In such a case, you need to adjust both your air conditioner and heater to lower degrees. The air conditioner lowers the temperature, which induces condensation on the inner sides of windowpanes. A heater, on the other hand, speeds up the process of evaporation from moisture contained in household items. However, running a patio heater in times of higher humidity inside can counter the problem to some degrees. With air conditioner and heater units, using a humidifier is the best option.

The most obvious signs of discomfort caused by low humidity levels indoors are dry nose and throat, itching, dryness of skin and hair, and irritation of the respiratory tract. To increase the humidity level, instead of an air conditioner and heater, you can use a humidifier. The increase can be brought about in three ways. First, by evaporating more water inside. Here you can use your heater to speed up the process. Take care not to set the heating level too high or you can possibly harm both your health and the indoor plants. The second way is to let air circulate through your room from a wet pad or by discharging a very fine mist of water into your room. For this, you have to add water manually on a regular basis until the desired level of comfort is attained. The third method employs direct introduction of moisture into the room, by means of a furnace.

While using air conditioner and heater for regulating temperature indoor, always use a humidity control unit so as to prevent the levels of humidity from going too high or too low and cause possible health problems as well as structural damage.

Applications Of An Air Conditioner

Since the days Willis Carrier introduced us to the device of air conditioners to the present, the device has pervaded almost all aspects of our life. They can be found in almost all facets of our life. From our bedroom, to our office, from the schools our children go to, to the malls we go for our shopping. It is everywhere we look at. This would make us wonder how wide ranging would be the applications of air conditioners.

If you ask an expert like an air conditioner engineer as to what are the applications of the device he would answer that it can be divided into two broad categories:

? Comfort and
? Process

When an air conditioner is meant for comfort applications its main job would be to provide a constant temperature indoors whatever may be the fluctuations of weather outside. It would also be able to deal with any change of temperature due to internal heat loads. The temperature maintained by these air conditioners is in the range where humans feel comfortable as these air conditioners are manufactured to provide comfort to humans.

Comfort air conditioners have allowed humans to build deep buildings where otherwise you wouldn?t have fresh air flowing in. The only way out was by building light wells. But with a central air conditioner in place you can actually cover as much horizontal floor space as you want and need not worry about ventilation. Air conditioners have also allowed humans to build extremely tall buildings. With air turbulence unpredictable at extreme heights, ventilating high rises would not have been feasible. With air conditioners one can do away with that problem.

Comfort air conditioners are again of two types ? for residential buildings and for commercial buildings.

Process air conditioning is meant to maintain a constant temperature irrespective of the weather outside or the internal heat loads. However, even under process air conditioning the temperature is generally within the comfort range. But it must be understood that in process air conditioning it is the process and not what you and I prefer that would determine the temperature that is maintained.

When an open heart surgery is performed the temperature maintained is about 18 degree Celsius or 64 degree Fahrenheit. For a neonatal operation again the temperature maintained is pretty higher ? something around 28 degree Celsius or 82 degree Fahrenheit.

So the applications are pretty wide ranging.

Air Conditioner Covers

Covers are used to protect air conditioners from unfavorable weather conditions such as condensation, dew, cold drafts, extreme heat, etc. They also keep dust and small insects away from the body of the air conditioner and its different components.

Dust Covers are made of synthetic material such as vinyl, plastics, terylene or Dacron. They are washable and are fastened and unfastened on the air conditioner by plastic zippers or Velcro fasteners. These Covers can be used to cover the entire body of the air conditioner, except the region which contains the duct and the button controls. They are available in a large number of sizes and colors. Mostly they are made in standard air conditioner sizes and can be bought directly from the shops. Some companies also manufacture Custom Covers after taking specifications from the ordering company.

Weatherizing Covers are more detailed in their design. These Covers are made of special plastics, such as polyurethane, or metals, and they can be fitted on the air conditioner. Most of these Covers have direct attachments with the front and back faces of the air conditioners. Others can be attached on the air conditioner using duct tape, caulk or mess. These Covers pack not only the air conditioner, but even the tiny gaps around it so as to prevent any cold drafts from entering inside the room. Some better-quality Covers can also absorb the vibration of the air conditioner, and reduce the noise it creates.

Portable air conditioners use Covers that envelop them completely. Zippers running through their entire length on one of the edges can secure them over the air conditioner?s body. These are made of synthetic plastics and are available in most colors and sizes.

Some Covers are also available in aesthetic designs for use in living room air conditioners. There are lace Covers and Covers with various designs and patterns on them. More than protection, these Covers aim at rendering beauty to the room by disguising the air conditioner.

Simple Dust Covers are available at less than $20. But custom-designed Covers and Weatherizing Covers may cost much higher depending on the specifications required.

Portable Single Room Air Conditioner Models Offer Versatility

Most houses today are built with central air. Those that don't have it, tend to have at least a window unit. So why would someone want to invest in a portable single room air conditioner?

Basics of HVAC

What is HVAC? You've probably heard of the term from different contractors, engineers, or perhaps colleagues and business partners; but you're still wondering what the initialism means. Well, HVAC ("H-V-A-C" or "H-VAK") stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning--three closely related fundamental functions found in homes, offices, and other building structures.

The beginning of HVAC is not clear, though as early as second century, a lot of Roman cities were using a central heating system known as hypocaust. This is further popularized during the Industrial Revolution as big factories used it. Now most modern buildings that you see have integrated HVAC.

The HVAC system is also known as climate control. This is because these three functions are essential in maintaining comfort in every dwelling.

The primary use of HVAC is to regulate room temperature, humidity, and air flow, ensuring that such elements remain within their acceptable ranges. Effective control of such factors minimizes health-related risks. A very humid atmosphere impairs the body's ability to regulate body temperature as it prevents the evaporation of sweat. High humidity also decreases physical strength, which usually leads to fatigue. An unhealthy surrounding can also affect people's thinking abilities. Hypothermia, heat stroke, and hyperpyrexia, among others, are some of the illnesses that may also occur.

There are three basic functions of HVAC. Heating is significant in maintaining adequate room temperature especially during colder weather conditions. There are two classifications of heating: local and central. The latter is more commonly used because it is more economical. Furnace or boiler, heat pump, and radiator make up the heating system.

Ventilation, on the other hand, is associated with air movement. There are many types of ventilation, but they all function similarly. Ventilation is necessary to allow carbon dioxide to go out and oxygen to get in, making sure that people are inhaling fresh air. Stagnant air causes the spreading of sickness, usually airborne, and allergies. But it is also essential to maintain an efficient ventilation system, especially in the attics. Insufficient ventilation usually promotes the growth of bacteria and fungi such as molds because of high humidity. It will also decrease the effectiveness of rafter and roof sheathing insulation because of water vapor condensation.

The air-conditioning system controls the heat as well as ventilation. They often come in different sizes. Most air conditioners have large air ducts, so it is better to check out the building first to see if they can be installed. Or else, you can use the split system or remote coils. It is necessary, though, that air ducts are properly cleaned. Pathogens thrive in dirty air ducts. Return-air grills are also vulnerable to chemical, microbiological, and radiological elements. Thus, HVAC return-air grill height should be that it is not accessible but visible for any observation.

HVAC has gone a long way over the years. Now, you may be wondering, how has technology changed in the HVAC field? Well, using PLCs (programmable logic controllers) in HVAC is the trend nowadays. But a great deal of development of the HVAC system lies on the ever-changing technology and continuous innovation. Companies are adopting wireless technology after they found out that networking HVAC controllers, which often use sensors, can eventually cut installation and labor costs. A lot of engineers are also focused on further improving this technology through the use of mesh wireless setup, which will work for both the wireless sensor and wireless controller networks. The only downside of this could probably be the risk of being exposed to RF (radio frequency) radiation.

The installation of an HVAC system is imperative if we want to achieve maximum comfort and be healthy in our homes, office spaces, or other building facilities. But you also need to consider the building size in installing an HVAC system. Optimum efficiency and comfort level are best achieved if the system is appropriate for the size. After all, any ineffective system usually means more incurred costs in the future. You should also see to it that HVAC is carefully integrated to the overall building design so other aspects needed for proper operations, such as cabling, are not sacrificed.
